PROST!! to Munich

The past two days spent in Munich went by quickly as we saw  and did a lot in our short stay there.

Upon our arrival from Heidelberg we checked into our hotel only a couple of blocks from the train station then headed to the city centre about a 10 minute walk away. We came across the Munich Marathon with almost 20,000 participants the downtown area was packed with people and bands and all sorts of things going on.

Of course we were drawn more museums and old churches. History seems to get older as we head east in Europe church’s and palaces and older buildings are everywhere. Through out history there have been many wars and fires that have destroyed these cities but they always resurrect themselves.

We are both totally amazed by the churches that were built in these cities are absolutely huge and ornate. St. Peter’s church started construction in 1180 AD but through various fires and wars this structure stood the strands of time. The art work and skilled craftsmanship is amazing.

Beer of course there is beer home of the Hofbrauhaus the worlds most famous tavern, this 3 story  started in 1897 and has been going strong since. October fest is during the month of September not October so we missed the really big festival. With Live music and a great vibe we participated for a couple of hours and then walked through a outdoor farmers market.

We walked through the Residence Palace and if your like ornate and gilded furniture, walls, and everything else this is the place for you. This was the home of various kings and barons each living to the absolute max it’s a huge site which we only saw a portion of in 3 hours.

Lots of walking each day and some fabulous sites but we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving with dinner at McDonald’s as we just wanted to have a simple meal.

Next we’re onto Salzburg home of the VonTrap family and more castles and museum.
