Hi Hi Heidelberg
Each city that we have visited is so unique and different it’s difficult to say which has been the best so far. Heidelberg has lots of history, great views and really great Schnitzel. We left early Friday morning from Brugge and arrived into Heidelberg around 2:00pm. Our hotel was next to the train station so we dropped off our bags and headed to the old town area. Located alongside the Neckar river Heidelberg was a stopping points for traders for the last 600 plus years, many of the old buildings still stand in the old town area along with the Heidelberg Castle. This is another city that was spared bombing in WW2 due to its cultural significance. With the cobblestone street’s and a vibe of a tourist town it was fun to walk around and just hangout at a corner cafe with a cold beer and watch the world pass in front of us.
We found a restaurant that has been in existence for over 300 years that serves only Schnitzel, the original heavy oak work bench’s are used as tables inside the restaurant with old carvings and a dungeon like feel to it. The place was just packed with many locals and tourists having to share a table together. The food was amazing and the service was great, two young guys served the whole restaurant of about 50-60 people with no extra help except the kitchen staff. After a great meal it was into the local bus back to our hotel.
Day two (Saturday) saw us take the bus back to the old town area and a funicular ride up to the Heidelberg castle which had an amazing view over the river valley. The castle has only been partially restored with the remains left to crumble away. We walked back into the old town and took a river cruise down the Neckar river and saw the city from a different perspective. More people watching was done with a cold drink, to wrap up the day it was back to the Schnitzel house for another amazing day.back to the hotel and then we head to Munich on Sunday morning.
